Guanajuato, Mexico -- Tropical???

I just a link from the gtolist forum to a NY Times travel article in which the author of the piece calls San Miguel de Allende, TROPICAL.

Now, SMA is a lot of things but tropical is not one of them.

Guanajuato is a state in the middle of Mexico. It is in central Mexico. The tropic are hours aways. Not even close!

So why would t his author say this? Who can know? It makes me thing he or she (I could not tell from the name) has never been to central Mexico and yet managed to sell the Times a piece on a non-existent tropic haven.
